ICT is a space that allows one to help solve business problems through technology. The following questions were sent to an application support specialist to help us understand what functions an application specialist fulfills in an organisation.

What does your typical day in the office look like? 
My typical day in the office is revolves around investigating problems that hinder the functionality of our core business applications. I do this through categorising the top incidents in the store and online environment.
What does a person need to study to be an application support specialist? 
An entry level IT qualification, you need to enjoy solving problems and must be an analytical thinker.
Why did you choose a career in ICT? 
I’ve always been fascinated by ICT and how it can improve our daily lives. I chose a career in ICT because I wanted to be in an environment that had an impact in our society. ICT is everywhere from agriculture to medical facilities.
Where do you see yourself in five years’ time? 
I would like to move into a more business-focused role that will allow me to give strategic direction within my space of work.
What do you love the most about your job?
I love the value it brings to the business by solving business problems.
What advice would you give a young women who wants to be an application support specialist?
Being in the Application Support Specialist role will provide you with a good foundation into your IT and business environment. It is a nice role if you are starting up and can open many doors within IT and business.
